There are beyond 900.000 confirmed asteroids in the solar system; most of them are in orbit between Mars and Jupiter. There is already an estimated $700 billion worth of valuable mineral resources in the asteroid belt alone. Companies are being set up worldwide to plunder these resources in a gold rush for the 21st century.
